The Story Of “The Other Noah”
The Meaning Behind the Name “Noah”
The name Noah comes from a powerful story in the Bible—one that speaks directly to courage, dignity, and a woman’s right to hope for a better future.
In the Book of Numbers, the daughters of Zelophehad—Noah, Tirzah, Mahlah, Hoglah, and Milcah—found themselves in an impossible situation. Their father had died without a son, and by the customs of the time, they were left with no legal claim to their family’s land or security.
Yet these remarkable young women did something unheard of:
They stepped forward. They spoke up. They asked Moses to grant them the right to inherit.
Moses listened—and God affirmed their request.
Their courage reshaped history, becoming the first legal precedent for women owning property in the ancient world. This moment is still celebrated today as a milestone for women’s dignity, equality, and agency.
Noa and her sisters didn’t just receive their inheritance—they changed the law for generations of women after them. Their story reminds us that when women are seen, supported, and empowered, entire communities are transformed.
Why “Noah’s Maternity Hope Cottage”?
We chose the name Noa because it embodies everything we believe in:
Courage to ask for help
Strength to claim a future filled with hope
Dignity, worth, and God-given purpose
A legacy of paving the way for others
Just as Noa and her sisters stood bravely before Moses, the women who walk through our doors are standing courageously for their babies, their futures, and the generations that will follow.
Noah’s Maternity Hope Cottage is a place where that legacy continues—
a place where women are empowered, protected, and given the chance to build their own beautiful new beginning.
